Beginning
I started this blog at my brother's suggestion. I have no idea what I plan to do with it what so ever.
I don't even know where to start. My brother told me just to write. So, I will write, but I don't know if I will open it to others to see? Even, if I did I don't really think anyone will find it interesting at all.
So, what do I start with?
I think I will start with a song I have playing over and over for the past two days. The song is Janus by the Korean group Boyfriend. When Boyfrined came out not too long ago I didn't really like most of their titled songs that had videos. Except "Don't touch my girlfriend" all the titled video songs seemed quite cute. But I loved their other songs "I'm in love, One day, Little by little and now Janus". Boyfriend came out with a very cute image for their band. Something that would not itimidate young girls, their also young themselves so it worked. One unique thing about Boyfriend is that a set of their members are twins. Although I have heard of other korean pop stars having twins. They are not usually in the same group or have almost equally fame. With their lastest album the image seemed to be more mature and the title song (and album) was Janus. Not being very knowledgable to me Janus was a Roman God of beginnings or doorways. He had two head one looked back and into the past and the other looked forward and into the future. The emblem on Boyfriend's Janus album is a two headed lion (looking forward and backwards) one dark, one light (or white like the paper). So for me I thought the title song would have something to do with that and the other songs in the album (that I have yet to listen to) would also somehow deal with that theme. However, having seen the music video the lyrics and the drama section of the video does not really to me seemed to deal with what I see Janus to represent. The only thing in the drama section of the video is two worlds a light snowy world and darker fire world with each of the twins playing one half of a couple (same girl dressed differently). Both couple walk into their respective worlds and you see they are a couple but then the girl leaves breaking up with the guy. In the darker world two of the other members come and seem to taunt the heart broken guy and enjoying his pain. In the light snow world, two members come supporting the guy helping to lift him up. In the dance section of the video, the members at times dance against and through a line of male dancers in black hodes. The two worlds and the dance section seems to be the only elements in the video that plays off the idea of Janus and the duelity that he can represent. The lyrics however to me does not. The lyrics for the most part talks about the guy hiding is pain from the girl so that is would not feel bad or be hurt as she says sorry and leaves him. Despite this I liked the song and the music video, but the drama section did not seem to go with the song because the girl really did not seem too remorseful about leaving. At no point to you see that their is a problem are that the guy suspect that she might leave. It seems completely out of the blue ing both worlds. I felt the guys image in Janus was more mature and manly (I am sure if that is the right way to describe it).
Having talked about Boyfriend a little, I really don't know the group very well. I don't know their names or can distinquish their roles and voices. That been said I have always been interested in Asian Culture. I started really listening to Japanese music because I watched Anime, but lately most of my songs are from Korea. Most of my songs are korean, japanese, chinese and a bit from India.
I am not sure if this was a good way to start but. Here is the blog.
